Umhlali at a glance

Umhlali is situated only a short distance inland from the small coastal holiday village of Salt Rock in the greater Ballito area on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. As such, it basks in the region's famous subtropical, seemingly never ending summer weather which makes it ideal for holidaymakers. Situated less than 5 kilometres from the coastline, Umhlali is only a short drive away from many of the Dolphin Coast's pristine sandy beaches with their warm waters and protective shark nets.

Umhlali and the river of the same name get their names from the Zulu name, Umhlali, for the Monkey Orange trees which were once plentiful along the banks of the river. Another meaning of the name translates to 'place of waiting' so called because people used to have to wait on the banks of the river before they were able to cross the river waters. Today it is a quaint sugar farming village situated approximately 50 kilometres from Durban central. Attractions include a museum, sugar mill tours and the Umhlali Golf Course and Country Club.

Umhlali offers residents and visitors to the village access to all the surrounding Ballito attractions, adventures, restaurants, shops and facilities and amenities. Further afield you will find animal farms, game reserves and nature reserves, preserving the natural beauty of the area for enjoyment by all. Enjoy the great outdoors with horse riding, paintball, surfing and various festivals and events in Ballito, not far from the peace and tranquillity of Umhlali.

Parents, you have the opportunity to raise your child in a healthy, pollution free environment outside of the city and away from the non-stop drum of traffic and business. Umhlali Preparatory School is on your doorstep and for older children, the greater Ballito area offers a variety of private and public schools. Umhlali boasts open spaces, surrounding natural areas and it is a small village, offering a close knit small community atmosphere and a year round seaside holiday feel, perfect for raising healthy, active kids.
